Kum Ming-chiu one of the very few genuine Nanyin singer around. Kum Ming-chiu is very old now and is highly respected among Chinese music circle in South china region. Nanyin is a Chinese style of storytelling which dates from the Song Dynasty. The lyrics themselves are poems, and usually comes with simple instrumental background. Some of the Nanyin pieces around are rather recent works, such as "Autumn Elegy by the Chu River," which was written for the Cantonese Opera a few decades ago; others are ancient, like "A Wanderer's Autumn Grief," one which all people in Guandong province were expected to be familiar with.
