Hugo Productions 香港雨果製作
An innovative project to integrate the appreciation of music, Chinese poetry, Chinese painting and calligraphy within one self-contained package. It showcases 21 new choral settings of popular Tang poems by some of the most active composers in town.
The musicians taking part in the project are all active figures in local music circles. Commissioned composers include Mr Chen Ning-chi, Mr Hui Cheung-wai, Mr Lam Fung, Dr Tang Lok-yin, Dr Mui Kwong-chiu, Ms Lam Lan-chee, Ms Cheung Pui-shan, Mr Chan Ka-hei, Dr Phoebus Lee, composers associated with tertiary institutions including Professor Victor Chan of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Dr Joshua Chan of the University of Hong Kong, and Dr Austin Yip of the Hong Kong Baptist University, and composers from HKIEd, including Professor Richard Tsang, Dr Leung Chi-cheung, Dr Leung Chi-hin, Dr Donald Yu, Dr Lai Sheung-ping, Mr Leung Kit-chung, graduate of the Master of Arts in Music Education, and Mr Chu Siu-hin, Year 4 HKIEd student.
Renowned concert pianists including Ms Colleen Lee, Mr Shum Kin-wai and Dr Allison So of CCA at HKIEd have been engaged to provide piano accompaniment to the CD production and performances, and Dr Steve Ho of CCA (composer for the famous McDull movies) has contributed to a specially written Overture based on the Ode to Teachers theme song (composed by Mr Lau Chun-wah to commemorate the heroic deeds of teachers who died in the 1996 Pat Sin Range hill fire). The song also serves as the finale to the concert, in a rearrangement by Dr Leung Chi-hin involving over 600 choristers.
