"Global Rhythm Magazine":---"WONG Ching attacks the strings of the pipa like some hell-bent, fret-bending punk rocker. If you are looking for a quiet cup of tea, well, then keep looking." It's the highest state-of-the-art Pipa recording you can get. The pipa is the leading instrument of the Chinese plucked-string musical group. It is a pear-shaped, 4-stringed, lute-like instrument with a common tuning of A,D, E, A.
Pipa has 6 wedge-shaped frets as well as 26 smaller bamboo frets that are used for higher positions on the upper strings. “White Snow in Early Spring” demonstrates how the pipa, in the hands of a master, can be fully exploited.
WONG Ching (Pipa). JIANG Xiao-peng (Conductor & Arranger). DU Chong (Dizi, Panpipe, Xiao). YANG Ru-wen; WANG Xiao-ning (Percussion). String Ensemble of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.
