Wong Ching

A musician with great passion and proficiency, WONG Ching was thirteen when she joined the China Broadcast Chinese Orchestra in Beijing as a Pipa soloist. She studied her instrument with renowned Pipa masters such as WANG Fan-di, WEI Zhong-le and SUN Yu-de. As a result, she has mastered the techniques of different styles and repertoire from different periods. A former recipient of China's Outstanding Performance Award/National Instruments Competition, she has long been acclaimed for her pure tone color and distinctive technique.

The pipa is the leading instrument of the Chinese plucked-string musical group. It is a pear-shaped, 4-stringed, lute-like instrument with a common tuning of A,D, E, A. Pipa has 6 wedge-shaped frets as well as 26 smaller bamboo frets that are used for higher positions on the upper strings.
